I was in the south eastern Utah desert, just north of the Arizona border on a hiking trip last spring. We camped out at the trailhead the first night, got a little drunk and went to bed around 1 a.m. or so. A little before 6 a.m., I woke up and had to go relieve myself. So I went outside, took care of business and stood near the tents for a few minutes enjoying the cool air, the stars, the darkness, the coyotes howling, just the atmosphere of it all. It was a clear night/morning only minutes before sunrise, not a cloud in the sky... except for one that I noticed.
It was to the north/north east of me and moving in an eastern direction. If I was facing due north on a clock, it would be at 1 o'clock. I would judge it to be maybe 3-4 miles away, a couple thousand feet up. I'd judge the size as maybe 100 yards long by 50 yards wide. What caught my attention wasn't just that it was the absolute only cloud in the sky, but that it was so incredibly dark. I mean the think was black against the evening sky. Now the sun was just beginning to show a little hint of light on the eastern horizon, but it was still very dark out. I watched this cloud move east at a fast pace. Yet, I was certain that it was a cloud, no lights, no hard angles, nothing indicating it was man made. The thing was oval shaped and actually very fuzzy around the edges, just like a cloud should be. But the speed of it moving caught my attention, almost like it was in the jet stream. Only thing was, there was hardly a trace of breeze on the ground. No storm, no wind, nothing to explain why it would be moving so fast other than the atmosphere up there must have been totally different at the time, which I will concede is very possible.
So after watching this thing head east for maybe 10-15 seconds, I absolutely swear IT MADE A 90 DEGREE LEFT TURN and started heading due north! It didn't bank gradually like a plane would or even more sharply like a helicopter, it just changed directions suddenly and without any hint it was going to do so. I stood there with my mouth wide open thinking, "there is no way that just happened" It then proceeded due north until after another 20 seconds or so it was so far away I could barely make it out. By then the sun was starting to show more light and the stars were fading. I stood there wondering about it for a couple more minutes and went back to bed.
After the trip, I was at work and speaking to a co-worker/friend and told them of the experience. This person is an army reserve officer, very honest and straightforward. Their response was with a smile and matter of fact, "that was no cloud... you have no idea what the military is capable of. It was a cloaking device designed to portray the image they wanted to show. Probably a helicopter." We chatted some more and they pointed out what better place (the remote desert) and time (before sunrise) to test such things and how many reliable witness would be out there to see it at that moment?
Now I don't think this person would ever tease me, but at the same time, I don't really believe such a thing/device is possible, yet I know what I saw and have no doubts it occured.
My question is, has anyone else ever heard of such a thing?

Sometimes I cruise around the Dream Interpretation, Mythology & Folklore, and Psychology sections of Yahoo! Answers because honestly, they're full of the most interesting people. I tend to stay away from Spirituality, it's full of unfriendly sorts.
Anyway, someone posted this question, and it has only had one reply thus far. Maybe some of you have something to contribute to it, just so the asker doesn't come up empty-handed? It's going to expire soon, though.
Another, more recent question in the same vein - not sure if any of you are around Wisconsin or have been through the area.
This one got some pretty interesting replies - and a lot more of them, too. Worth looking at.
Oh, and this one's just funny. Lovecraft FTW.
Oh, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.
4:53AM - Moderation FTW?
Holy crap, I'm still a moderator here? Daidreamer, you still around?
Uh, hi... everyone... well, now I just feel weird.
FIRST POST OF 2007!
Daidreamer and I started this community a while ago as an open community for the discussion of ghosts, strange dreams, aliens, and various other strange incidents. Then, life got busy. Oddly, I feel like a stranger here, now.
I have been known, from time to time, to post entries in my journal about the strange dreams and nightmares that I have. However, I doubt anyone from the community ever wanders through my personal journal, and those entries are locked anyway. They aren't exactly supernatural, but dreams easily fall into the realm of the unexplained. Whether we're exploring another world, or the worlds that exist within our own psyches, strange is strange. :-)
Recently, I went through my journals - electronic and written - and collected the entries. I've been fascinated by the vivid, bizarre dreams and nightmares that I have had for a long time. I'm collecting them and posting them, dream by dream, to a separate blog called "Ghosts on my Heels". I decided to put it on Blogger because of the added flexibility and freedom that it offers. You can find it here
Oh, and I promise I'll go through and delete some of the genuine spam. You're safe, Strangewire, I'm talking about the completely extraneous crap. There actually doesn't seem to be much of it. Amazing!

Last night I took my grnadmother to the funeral of one of her friends.
After the funeral, I was helping grandma into my car. I had left my driver's side door open while I was doing this and all of the sudden it slammed shut. No, I wasnt parked on a slope, and there was no wind. I kind of laughed and told grandma that Esther wanted to come along.
Driving home I was messing around with my camera, taking pictures just to amuse myself. When I uploaded the pictures on my computer, however...I found
Is that weird or am I hallucinating?

1:53PM - The Myrtles
Hello, I'm Lana from Baton Rouge. Recently, my fiance and I spent the night at The Myrtles Plantation, which boasts to be the 13th most haunted house in the world. We stayed in the room where two little girls died in the 1800s. From our bedroom window, we snapped a picture, but the flash reflected off the window.

My ghost experience from yesterday. Everything in here is not embellished, at least not on my end. Last night, Heather was really frightened and jittery, and she was not acting.

Hey all! I just stumbled upon this community and I though for my first post I'd share a photo I took last year. The picture is of a masoleum in a reportedly haunted graveyard near where I live. It was not raining that day, and at the time my camera was brand spanking new, so what do you all make of all those "orbs"?

Hello everyone. I just joined and figured I'd do the old introductory post.
To keep it short, my name is Amanda, I'll be 19 next month, and have been interested in the paranormal for as long as I can remember.

4:40PM - Strangewire
Hey, just wanted to let you guys know about Strangewire.com, a blog for all things paranormal, supernatural, and the like from legitimate news sources. Unlike the type of sites and columns that deal in "wacky news"-style articles about goofy work mishaps and amusing medical malpractice, Strangewire attempts to deal with phenomena that are part of a bigger question, from strange lights in the sky in the south-west US, to a man with claims of a haunting in Australia, from zombies and voodoo practice in Haiti to global government conspiracies. Fox Mulder's favorite blog, in other words. Recent articles include headlines such as "FLESH CHUNKS IN IOWA WATER LINES" and "NEW JAPANESE GHOST DETECTOR FOR SALE."
Check out Strangwire.com, or just add the livejournal feed here to your friends list.

- Ok this is my first time posting here. -
My mother(aunt) and I were driving around the city one day when we came across a strange light.
The light was blue and it was in the sky and I am very confused as to what it was, I thought I was going nuts - was it a street lamp? No.
Airplane? No, air planes do not disapear once you turn around for 3 seconds.
I honestly do not know what it could be and its been bothering me for a while - I never mentioned it to anyone til now.
My mother was with me so I know I'm not the only one seeing it/crazy.
My mother and I are the most logical people on earth and I still can't explain it.

6:00PM - Silver Cord
Hi, I've been a member of this community for a long while, but I haven't posted yet, because I'm a generally shy person. I do enjoy reading and looking at all of your posts, though. I have something I would like an open-minded opinion on, if at all possible, though. I'm not sure if this is the community which often gains a lot of "that's dust, that's just a hair, etc." types of comments.
What I am actually hoping for though, is not comments on the authenticity of the photograph, or whether you think it's this or that physical explanation. Those comments are easy to make. What I'm looking for is perhaps someone who has studied ghostly or supernatural phenomenon, and has perhaps seen something similar to this in a picture, or some sort of description or study.
Trust me when I say all physical explanations are ruled out for this thing. There are no hanging chains or lights in my mom's house that could cause this, there were no holiday decorations. She was only trying to get a photo of the hanging picture on the right because I gave it to her for xmas. In my opinion, her new-ish house is too bare, so given that information - she doesn't decorate - those aren't beads or streamers or anything like that.
It isn't some electrical thing hanging out of the ceiling or wall, because she would certainly notice that. This thing was only seen in this one picture. She almost deleted it but she wanted me to see it and I personally haven't seen anything that looks like this... It also seems to be casting a shadow. There are orbs in the picture also, I'm sure that could be called dust or whatever. They always show up in pictures at my mom's house, so nothing unusual there.
What is unusual is the silver cord on the left, near the TV that seems to be throwing a shadow of itself on the wall... to me it looks completely physical, however there is nothing in my mom's house even remotely resembling this in physical reality. Also if it was hair, how could it cast such a big shadow on the wall? It looks like it's only a few inches from the shadow/wall, and not on the camera lens itself, like hair would be.
( Silver cordCollapse )
Any thoughts as to what this might be? Thanks, VV

I have been dealing with waaaaay to much weird shit. Maybe it is the absinthe, maybe its the shit early on in life. I do not know. As of late I was validated in my fears. My cousin whom I have not seen since daddy dearest left us as tots informed me of some unpleasentries. One of them in particulaur went against everything she as a scientist believed in. APparently when yours truly was but a wee one I used to get lovely visits from a woman green in visage with short wet and slightly curled hair. She would grab pinch and scratch at me. My fathers eastern orthodox family did not buy my Superstitious mother saying a ghost woman did it. So many of my fathers family memebers would come over spend the night in the backroom with little ol' me to make sure the crazy gypsy woman was not coming in at abusing my body.
Well according to my dear old cousing she is as I see her in my night terrors. Slightly greenish skin haggard and pockmarded. Her hands were cold and her eyes wild and sad. She would grab and snatch at my skin leaving marks and screaming into my face. Many of her teeth were gone and those that were there were bleeding and broken off at strange angles. Cousin Jeanette told me that all the people who stayed there in the backroom recieved similar treatment. It drove my mother to joining a penecostal church and in my opinion thusly nuts.
I have been dreaming about this woman for most of my life thinking I had too much of one vice or not enough of another.
Well when I go to dear Cousins douse and she and I newly reaqauinted start talking she asks me if I remember my tormentor she describes the woman to whom I have been talking about most of my life. Going so far as to reminding me of the smell of her breath. I have not been more validated in a very long time. Yet at the same time, I wonder who was she were did she go. All I seem to remember is her being named Jody, her description and that she hated us.

I posted this as a comment in another entry, but thought I'd repost it so everyone could read it.
Yeah, I had a ghost kill two of my guinea pigs and trash my house once. I'd been hearing and experiencing this ghost for years ever since I was little. One of the things I'd experience was the sound of footsteps upstairs in my little sisters' bedroom. One night while I was home alone (family was in NC) I heard the regular footsteps, but this time they moved towards the stairs. I've never felt that this presence was friendly so I ran out of the house without another thought. When I came back with my best friend, the house was trashed and my guinea pigs were missing. We freaked out and left again to get her bf. This time when we came back, the guinea pigs were lying in the middle of the floor and they were dead. They had no marks on them of any kind. It was a sad day. The presence was quiet for years after that. I wonder if it was trying to contact me and I ran, so it got angry. Just this summer, I started hearing the footsteps again... I know its back and it's not nice!
Other things I've experienced in this house are things are moving and turning on by themselves, stuff like that. Lots of dreams! Ghosts seem to be attracted to me as I've had experiences in my dorm rooms and my apartment.
